AAA Playoffs
A few of you may know we advanced past Pawtucket in the first round of the International League playoffs and will kick off the Championship round tonight against Durham. We have a great team and hopefully we can win this whole thing. A lot of great pitching match ups in each game. You should really check it out if you get a chance.
I'm also heading to the Arizona Fall League when the season is over to get some more innings in. I'm really excited to work on some things and get my innings count up for this year.
Lastly, The Office 1 hour season premiere, Sep. 25th. Can't Wait!

yay!!!! omg first comment =) haha i am soo happy for you phil! we really need you back =\ last night we got squashed in Anaheim...things are getting so crazy without you! you need to come back like ASAP =)
<33 -
Best of luck to you and the rest of the SWB Yanks, Phil!
-
it sucks that you had that one bad start bc if you could have pitched for the yanks the way you pitched against Colon, we would have been in much better shape last night!
Season Premier is going to be great!! -
Quite the outing you had last night Phil -- keep up the great work! And tell your position players to have fun trying to get much going off David Price tonight! haha Best of luck the rest of the playoffs, and in the Fall League!
-
Hey Phil. Thanks for the update? Are you going to be in the Bronx this season? Also, are you going to start contests again?
-
Please be ready for 2009, the Yanks need to get back to the playoffs. Missing it this year really sucks.
-
Amazing game on Sunday Phil! 11 strikeouts...awesome! And Shelley's homer was great!
Good luck in the Championships!
Oh, and can't wait for the office to start again...my thursday nights have been so dull without the show!! :) -
Phil We miss you in the bronx, well right now Anaheim. Good luck in the AAA playoffs
-
At least the Yankees finished ahead of the Red Sox SOMEWHERE.
-
You owned Pawtucket last night. Great job. Although I wish the Yankees had of brought you up earlier so you could have done that in the majors. But I hope you do great in Arizona. Get that innings count up so you can beast next year!
-
Hey Phil! Good luck in the championship series. I hope I can go! And I'm pumped for The Office =D post again soon!! =)
-
I feel for you regarding the injury but you were definitely needed this season in the bigs, not pitching in a minor league playoff game. It's a shame you had a setback because the Yanks should never have let Pavano take the mound again and if you were healthy and given a shot, who knows what sort of jolt you would have provided the team and what sort of comeback the Yanks could have started in September.
-
What is this talk of "fall ball" in AZ? Exactly how much of October does this take up? ;0) Rock some socks in the AAA playoffs. We all know you can... redbull is the key. Catch you on the flip side CH......
-
Good luck in the playoffs, it's great that both AAA & AA Trenton are in the championship. Have a great fall in Arizona and we can't wait til your back in the Bronx.
-
Phil, keep it up..
-
Congrats on making the finals. You pitched unbelievable last night. Good luck in the finals.
-
Best of luck in the playoffs. Maybe one or two of the Yankee teams could win a Championship!
-
Great job Phil! It's nice to see you guys make us proud, unlike a certain big league team.
-
Best of luck to you guys Phil!!!!!!
-
I hope you get to face David Price. That'd be a great matchup... could be a rivalry for the next decade and a half...
-
Good luck in the playoffs I'm sure you will have no problems. The Staten Island Yankees just beat my town's team in the playoffs. There is a ton of great talent in the minors. In all fairness though it isn't like you will be in the minors for all that long the Yankees will need your arm next season.
Jillian -
Phil, congratulations on advancing, and your dominant performance the other night. I cant wait to see you back in the pinstripes!
-
Keep working Phil, can't wait to see you back in the bigs next season.
-
Great to hear that things are well with you. The farm is stacked, so we should fare pretty good in the playoffs. Good to hear that you will be playing fall ball in AZ. Good luck and keep in touch!!
-
Guess you won't be wasting your arm on a team that hasn't shown life since july. I understand why you need innings. The Yankees are making me depressed so I was looking for excitement of you returning. At least the minor league affiliate will win a championship.
-
All the best to you, Ian, Shelley and Melky. Hope to see you all back in the bigs.
Thanks for the update. -
YAY for making the playoffs! It is nice to know that you are going to get more chances to pitch in the fall league. I'll follow you all the way!
-
I mean the stats/starts. Not in a creepy stalker kind of way!
-
Phil, your performance last week vs. Bartolo Colon was absolutely impressive.
It's great to see that you're healthy, and I'm sure this experience is going to help you for next year when you're with the big-league club- you have a great attitude and it will surely pay dividends for you down the road.
I look forward to seeing you contribute next year and dominate big-league hitters like you did in 2007! -
Nice job of late. Especially in your last start. Good luck in the playoffs. Looking forward to see you in the AFL. Phil..check this out. Remember me? haha. Kevin

-
hey phil! my congratulations to the scranton team - especially you and ian . i heard the two of you pitched KILLER outings & you guys really were fascinating. i had a friend that went to one of the games and said that you guys were absolutely amazing. congratulations again, and i hope that this isn't the last time that i'm hearing about you and ian this season =)
-
Hi Phil,
Good Luck!!! The rest of the way... I hope to see you next year in the new stadium!!!! All the best!!!!! -
PHIL!!!!! finally you post here, dude good luck tomorrow ill be watching
-
Good luck tonight Phil!!!!! :)
-
Phil Hughes will be pitching tonight for the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees. Phil dominated in his last start, and the team will try to claim the International League title against Wade Davis and the Bulls. Scranton is currently winning the series 2-1, and will look to lock it all up tonight. Hoping for another great outing by him tonight. Good luck Mr. Hughes!
Pitching Matchup:
P. Hughes (0-0, 0.00) vs W. Davis (1-0, 1.50)
Kevin
-
Phl you have been pitching good lateley but i think you should change your mechanics a little bit and put less stress on your shoulder and use your legs more which will have u throwing 95 but more importantly you willl put less stress on your shoulder
-
Leave the coaching to the pros.
-
You were brilliant once again. Phil's Line: 5IP 4H 1R 1ER 4BB 12K. Nice job.

Hey Phil,
I heard you got the call to the big leagues after last night's game....great news!!
You've definitely shown you're ready and we've really missed you in NY.
Congrats :-) -
Congrats on helping the team to a title. It must have been nice having your team score 20 runs. And I see that you've been called up. I'm glad... they need a jolt of energy up in the bigs right about now. Keep it cool!
-
Congratulations on the Governors' Cup and being called up! Can't wait to see you pitching for NY again!
~ Stacey -

I can't wait to watch the game on Wednesday. I'll be able to watch you and hide from the Mets bullpen.

Congrats on winning the Governers Cup!! I'm a little behind but I just read on yankees.com that you will be making the start on Wednesday night and I wanted to say that's awesome!!! Good Luck!!!
So what made you take back 65?? -
can't wait for Wednesday.....although for some reason, on tuesdays game pitching for the w/ sox is some kid named Gavin Floyd. He kind of reminds me of Phil...
-
Just saw you on MY9 congratulating Jeter on the sacrifice bunt, and was really excited to see you wearing the glasses. Can't wait to watch you play tomorrow night!
-
Good luck tonight.
-
good luck tonight :)
-
Noticed from your playlists you enjoy, among others, "crunchy" type guitar rock - check out Tesla, old or new: same "crunchy" style guitar rock.
In your opinion - do you think a full year in the minors, 2009, would be helpful to you in the long run or do you believe you can learn as you go in the majors?
Also, who do you, if anyone, did or do you lean on most about how to deal with the NY press?
Good luck on the start tonight. -
Good Luck tonight! Kevin
-
Your wear 65 again, I guess money was wasted buying the 34 jersey.
-
Lets go HIUGHES
-
Nicely done. You got in trouble int he first..throwing 33 pitches, but you really battled. 4IP 4H 1R 1ER 2BB 4K. Phil finished with an 89 pitch count. I'll take a start like that any day. Kevin
-
Not bad tonight Phil, kept it close and grinded. Good job and much luck to you in the future!
-
i was at the game last night and you pitched great! the glasses looked sick
-
Great Job last night Phil, It's good to have ya back, keep up the good work
-
Phil, greetings from Charleston SC - I have been scanning Yankees box scores and finally saw you played yesterday Sept 17 for four innings and did well. Did not realize you had a blog and don't know if you actually read all the comments, but please know we were delighted to get to see you with our RiverDogs this year and even more delighted you are back where you belong in the Majors! Keep up your efforts and the rewards will come.
-
I was working last night but I had espn up so that I could track how you were doing. I was really happy for you that you were able to come back and make a good start. Continue to work hard like we all know you always do and next season will be great! Enjoy the last game on sunday. I wish I could be there for that it is going to be amazing!

-
I miss Yankee Stadium already!!!
I'm excited though, since i'm going to the second to last game at Yankee stadium
-
phil!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry i didn't comment earlier and this is kind of a delayed reaction lol but you were excellent during your most recent start. it was as if you had been pitching in the majors all along, and you never got injured. but we all knew all along that you would do great like that - we all have faith in you!!!!!!!!!!!! -
hi phil!!
I watched all the ceremonies yesterday during the final day at the stadium and I saw you on television standing next to Joba while they were introducing all the retired players. How was it to be with them, in the locker room and the dugout and on the field it had to be amazing standing so close to so many yankee legends. I got the oppurtunity to meet Yogi Berra and Don Larsen it was an amazing experience. How was it for you it had to be amazing?!
Rita -
Phil, GOOD LUCK your neck start! No playoffs this year, but we can still remind the Jays and the Sox who's king :)
-
Hey Phil! Good luck on your start tonight. I hope you can end on a good note on what must have been a very difficult year. I'm getting very excited about the '09 Yankees already. With you, Coke, Ransom, Joba and Gardner it's hard not to get excited about what this team can be in the future. Anyways, take care of yourself buddy. Take care:)
-
the only thing keeping me happy after this elimination is that you're pitching tonight... i wish you the best of luck and know how great you'll do... btw you looked super handsome on sunday at the game - keepup the good work <3
-
Good luck tonight Phil!!!
-
Good luck tonight. End the season on a high note. Kevin
-
Good job tonight Phil!
-
Great start! Your stuff looked really, really good. =0)
All that's left for Yankees fans is hope that next year will be better....and we saw some reasons to believe that tonight (and in the past week as well) -
phil. great start(s)... the only jersey i have is a 65 authentic. your my favorite player and these performances are proving to all my friends how nasty you are. your curve tonight was the best breaking ball ive seen since barry zito in his early oakland days. Keep up the good work and have a great 09
-
great way to end the season, good luck in AZ :)
-
Phil, amazing job out there last night- it was truly awesome to see you pitch 8 full innings and dominate the Jays like you did. If only they could have scored more than 2 runs for you, you'd have a big W...but hey- you still have that postseason W from last year on your resume! You have a really bright future ahead of you- keep working hard and your tough luck will be but a thing of the past!
-
phil!
Wicked curve against Toronto!!
Bravo!!!!! -
Hey Phil! Great job last night!
-
That was Phil's best start as a Yankee. He did great, even though he didn't pick up the win. 8IP 5H 2R 2ER 0BB 6K. All 6 K's were on his nasty curve. What a way to end the season.
Kevin -
great start last night Phil.. you're curve was described as better than a great major league breaking ball.. by the YES announcers. that's quite the compliment
-
Hey Phil,
Do you know what dates you are going to be pitching in the AZ Fall League? I would really like to come see you!
-Steph -
hows freakin awesome was the office last night, with fainting and dwight leaving nancy and making her walk for 5 miles haha great show

-
AWESOME, Phil, Scranton Yankee season ticket holder and you made it proud here in Scranton and for the Yankees. Wish you the best with NEW YORK, you deserve a starting role up there. Oh, and thanks for the awesome autograph from behind home plate when I had to sneak down in between innnings so usher wouldn't chase me,lol!!!!!!!!! Best to you and see you in NEW YORK next year.
Jack -
hope 2 c u in the majors next year cause the yanks need help with the pitching. hopefuly the trio(you joba and ian will all b in the rotation.
Matt Klampert -
Phil,
I'm happy that you won down there. However, the teams that counts is not even in the running. Look at it like this we didnt trade you for Johan because we love/trust you. And we need you. Btw dont tell everyone your going to fall league, Hank might not allow that. We need you next year to stay healthy, and pitch like you did in Toronto. Eight innigs no runs five hits! Thats amazing. The new stadium is going to be a blast. We cant wait for it. And you and Joba (well Ian stinks). Maybe CC and AJ. And maybe we wont need so many doctors next year.
Lets Go Yankees,
David -
First of all, Hank really isn't in charge, he just gives the sound bytes for the media, while Hal and Cash have their meetings... Which Hank doesn't even attend anymore.
Hughes didn't decide he was going to the Arizona Fall League. The organization decided that. -
Great job in Toronto Phil. Good to see you finish the season strong. Good luck in the Arizona Fall League. Keep us updated.
