Disu Scores Career-High, Abmas Hits Game Winner to Lead Texas Past Cincinnati

After dropping their conference opener to Texas Tech, the Texas Longhorns needed an answer headed into Tuesday's meeting with the newly-acquainted Cincinnati Bearcats, who were hosting Rodney Terry's bunch for the first Big 12 home game in program history.

Dylan Disu made his first start of the season with Kadin Shedrick ruled out prior to tip-off and put together the best game of his collegiate career.

The roster shakeup might have been for the best on Tuesday, as it allowed Disu to show the college basketball world what he's all about.

After a back-and-forth affair throughout, No. 25 Texas (12-3) used a career-high 33 points from Disu and a go-ahead jumper from guard Max Abmas with 6.2 seconds left to take down Cincinnati (12-3) in a 74-73 thriller.

Disu shot 13 of 23 from the field and 4 of 10 from deep while adding six rebounds, two blocks and four steals. Abmas had 13 points and five assists. Tyrese Hunter added 10 points.

Texas only had four bench points compared to 30 for Cincinnati.

The Longhorns got out to a nice shooting start and took a 10-4 lead.

The Bearcats went on an 11-0 run before Abmas hit a triple. Disu helped spark a 7-0 run for Texas with a thunderous poster and a catch-and-shoot 3 to add to his 12 early points to give the Longhorns a 23-20 lead.

Texas built a seven-point lead at 29-22 before a 8-2 Cincinnati run began a late-half, back-and-forth sequence between the two teams. Skillings Jr. had five straight points in the final 1:09 but Disu rimmed in a shot from mid-range to give him 19 points in an impressive first half. The Longhorns led 41-39 headed into halftime.

Lakhin had a solid start to the half with five quick points while Mitchell had a fastbreak dunk and off-the-dribble floater to answer.

It looked like the Bearcats were going to start running away with it after a 6-0 run to take a 53-49 lead at the 10-minute mark, but Disu swished his third triple of the game to quiet the crowd.

This was just the start of a dominant next few minutes for the big man.

He got free for his fourth 3-point make a few minutes later before a pair of free throws and another shot in the pain Disu did this while making timely plays on defense that led to extra possessions.

A pair of high-arcing 3s and two free throws from Lukosius kept Cincinnati in it despite Texas' mini run. He gave the Bearcats a 71-70 lead with 1:58 to play after getting a friendly roll on a jumper before a turnaround fadeaway extended that lead to three with 55 seconds to play.

But the final sequence belonged to Texas. Disu rattled in two more points from the post before a missed free throw gave the Longhorns a chance to win it.

Abmas did, hitting his second game-winner of the season.
