2025 NBA Draft: Is Cooper Flagg A Generational Talent?

It’s no secret that the 2024 NBA Draft lacks a generational talent at the top of the class, especially when you compare it to the previous and future draft classes. The current favorite to be the number one pick in this year’s draft class is Alexandre Sarr out of the NBL. The 7-footer is an elite defensive prospect that has shown some versatility on both ends of the floor. 

Let’s now fast forward and dive into the favorite to be the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg.

Flagg is a 6-foot-9 forward and is currently a senior at Montverde Academy. The talented prospect is looking to lead his team to a GEICO National Championship after falling in the quarterfinals last year. This past summer Flagg reclassified and made his commitment to Duke. The Blue Devils once again land the top player in the entire class and Flagg will look to be the Duke’s first number one pick since 2019 when Zion Williamson was selected first overall by the New Orleans Pelicans.

What makes Flagg so special? The 6-foot-9 forward is arguably the best defensive prospect in the entire world due to his great size, mobility, defensive awareness and instincts. He’s an absolute stocks monster as he’s an elite help side defender and shot-blocker. He also does a great job at playing the passing lanes and utilizing his size to rack up steals. Flagg is one of the best defensive playmakers you will ever see in the high school game. It’s undeniable that he has potential defensive player of the year potential in the NBA.

On the offensive end Flagg brings a ton of versatility and has been improving his offense at an incredibly rapid rate since he was a freshman in high school. He has a great feel for the game and is a capable playmaker and secondary ball-handler. The skilled forward can really score it and has proven to be an effective three-level scorer. He uses his size and touch to score over smaller defenders inside the painted area. He’s a good shot-maker that can convert on difficult pull-up jumpers from all over the floor.

Flagg is a unique two-way prospect that has a chance to be a superstar in the NBA. He has been ridiculously productive at every level and event he has participated in and has proven to be an alpha in the court. Some scouts and media members have said they would take Flagg number one overall in the 2024 NBA Draft if he was eligible. The hype is undeniable and the upside is unreal but we will see if he’s able to reach that level.
